The Power of Words Academy offers a variety of enrichment programs for students in Grades 1 to 9. We provide both in-person and virtual options to best suit your child’s needs.

Step 3: Secure Your Spot
Complete your registration by submitting a $100.00 non-refundable deposit via our secure online checkout powered by Stripe immediately after submitting the Student Information Form.

Step 4: Finalize Your Tuition Payment

For our Reading Comprehension, Enrichment Writing, and Public Speaking School Year Program, the balance is divided into the following installments:

  • Upon Enrollment: $100.00 deposit (Paid via Stripe in Step 3).

  • August 31, 2026: $500.00 is due. Payable via e-transfer to admin@powerofwordsacademy.ca (please use your child’s first name as the security answer) or by cheque on the first day of class.

  • November 15, 2026: $500.00 is due via post-dated cheque.

  • February 15, 2027: $500.00 is due via post-dated cheque.

  • April 15, 2027: $500.00 is due via post-dated cheque.

For our Grade 1 Enrichment Reading Comprehension, Phonics, and Early Writing School Year Progrrm, the balance is divided into the following installments:

Grade 1 Enrichment Reading Comprehension, Phonics, and Early Writing

Grades: 1 | Tuition: $1,800 | Format: In-Person
Dates: September 2026 to May 2027

This comprehensive 30-week program builds a strong, confident foundation in essential literacy skills, guiding students from basic sound recognition to independent reading and sentence construction. The curriculum focuses on three core areas: Phonics & Spelling Mastery, Reading Comprehension (analyzing story elements and making inferences), and Grammar & Early Writing. With engaging lessons and regular assessments, this program ensures students achieve reading fluency and writing confidence by the end of the school year. Class size is limited to a maximum of 8 students to ensure personalized attention.

Reading Comprehension, Enrichment Writing, and Public Speaking

Our flagship enrichment program develops well-rounded communicators. The curriculum features three key units: Reading Comprehension & Summarizing, Essay Writing (expository, persuasive, comparative, research), and Public Speaking & Debate. Each 1.5-hour class also dedicates 20 minutes to foundational grammar and vocabulary building.

English Prep Course for Entrance Exams (SSAT, ISEE, UTS, IB, TOPS, MaCS)

Grades: 5-8 | Tuition: $700 | Format: In-Person (North York) & Virtual (attend the live class online)
Class Dates: Thursday, September 24, 2026, to Thursday, November 12, 2026

Designed for students preparing for admission to top-tier private schools and specialized academic programs in Grades 6–8, this intensive eight-week course builds the English skills needed for entrance examinations. Students will strengthen their vocabulary, verbal reasoning, reading comprehension, writing, analytical thinking, and test-taking abilities while building a strong foundation for future success in IB, MaCS, and TOPS programs.

Through targeted instruction and timed practice, students will learn six vocabulary-building strategies, master Synonym, Analogy, Sentence Completion, and Reading Comprehension questions, and develop effective writing techniques for SSAT creative responses and ISEE persuasive essays. They will also learn pacing strategies, when to guess or skip questions, how to avoid the SSAT wrong-answer penalty, and how to determine which exam format—SSAT or ISEE—best showcases their strengths. The course includes a diagnostic assessment, timed drills, a mini-SSAT, and a full mock exam with written feedback and performance analysis.

Schedule:

This is a combined class: students attending virtually will join the same live session at the same time as students attending in person at the North York Campus.

Entrepreneurship Course

Grades: 7-9 | Tuition: $850 | Format: In-Person (North York) & Virtual
Dates: October 2026 to February 2027

This 14-week Business English course introduces students to professional communication, report writing, and presentation skills through interactive lessons and a hands-on cumulative project. Classes are limited to 12 students to ensure individualized feedback. Units include Business Letters (practical correspondence), Report Writing (research-based reports tied to student-created businesses), and Presentation Tools & Skills (marketing campaigns and tech-enabled presentations). The course culminates in a final project where students present and promote their product, combining oral delivery, digital tools, and a simple website.

  • North York Campus: Thursdays, 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM (October 1, 2026 - January 14, 2027)

  • Virtual: Wednesdays, 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM (September 30, 2026 - January 13, 2027)

Preparation for Grade 9 English

Grades: 7-8 | Tuition: $850 | Format: In-Person (North York) & Virtual
Dates: February 2027 to May 2027

This 14-week Grade 9 English preparation course builds the skills students need for success in Grade 9 English through focused units on Short Stories (plot, theme, character), Novel Study (in-depth analysis and an Independent Study Unit with written and oral components), Poetry (figurative language and analysis), and Advanced Essay Writing (500–600 word literary essays). Classes are interactive, limited to 12 students, and culminate in an ISU that includes summary notes, a theme-based poem, a class activity, and an oral presentation. Class size is limited to a maximum of 12 students to ensure personalized attention.
